Albert Ghim writes for No Ceilings, one of many extra refined NBA websites, and final week, he received a uncommon likelihood to inspect veteran gamers figuring out on the West Coast, notably these fees of private coach Zach Gonzalez. Amongst those that he is been specializing in in Gonzalez exercises and the runs on the NBPL’s new coaching facility in Playa Vista, an L.A. suburb. has been Egor Demin. To say Ghim is enthusiastic concerning the Nets second 12 months guard could be an understatement. He simply raves about him!
Ghim described how the 20-year-old has been figuring out in L.A.
“He’s completely locked in, laser-focused, a person on a mission,” Ghim started. “He’s so laborious and ferocious on himself. I requested him what’s your day-to-day appear to be proper now. He is figuring out with Zach within the morning, he taking part in the pro-runs on the new NBPA facility, getting in a elevate. He is doing further exercises at night time when attainable.

“He is going so laborious. He’s actually a person on a mission. This can be a man who is aware of the place he must develop, spending a ton of time on his ball-handling, a ton of time on physicality, his jumpers, several types of jumpers — jumpers off motion, jumpers off the dribble. jumpers from the mid-range, from the skin, taking part in by way of physicality, embracing physicality. Initiating physicality is a giant one to look at as effectively.
Ghim additionally spoke about how Demin has bulked up.
“For Brooklyn Nets followers who’re watching this proper now, I need you to know that Yegor’s physique is totally destroyed. It’s overwhelmed. He’s so laborious on himself. He doesn’t care if he is harm or if he is barely harm or not feeling effectively, he’s trying himself in that health club and to look at him work.”
And like Ben Saraf in an interview with the Jerusalem Put up final week and Julius Randle’s Q-and-A on the Brooklyn Basketball Coaching Middle Saturday, Demin advised Ghim he and his teammates are dismissing the naysayers. Ghim recounted what Demin advised him about how commentary about final season

“He mentioned, ‘look we get it. We’re not idiots. We hear what persons are saying on TV, saying we do not wish to win, we do not care. We care,” Ghim quoted Demin.
Ghim additionally relayed what might have been essentially the most fascinating level of his 12 and a half minute commentary, how veterans are respecting Demin within the professional runs.
“Initially, early on, among the veterans did not need him to play. They had been like ‘he is too younger. we wish to preserve the youthful guys off, preserve it to veterans.’ Then, he received in and he completely began torching guys. Guys like Norman Powell and Kyrie Irving have had quite a lot of reward for Egor. And in one of many video games, he was taking part in with Norman Powell and he went off for like 30 plus they usually gained. And as he walked off the ground they usually had been all saying, ‘this child goes to be an absolute drawback’ and they’re very, very impressed with him…
“He seems to be like a man who completely needs to show the narrative of the Brooklyn Nets. He is already hung out in Texas with Julius Randle, figuring out with him, constructing that rapport, that relationship and he’s a person on a mission that desires to carry Brooklyn again to successful basketball.” Ghim added. “He needs to be a pacesetter. He needs to be a pacesetter by instance.

Lastly, Ghim provided a bit intel on the connection between Demin and Mikel Brown Jr. who’s solely a month youthful than Demin.
“He is telling me about Mikel and he is saying, ‘Mikel is a freak.’ And the stuff Mikel cares about — his intel, his information, his IQ of the sport is extraordinarily, extraordinarily excessive. He feels just like the match between him and Mikel goes to be like a glove.
“It will be an ideal pairing between the 2 and he is speaking about how Mikel has a lot capacity, on and off ball, which makes their pairing so fascinating as Egor continues to develop as a ball-handler, as a creator himself. If I used to be a Brooklyn Nets fan, I might be completely by way of the moon with the younger core they’re constructing over there … Egor seems to be like a person on a mission and he is coming for blood.”
Ghim’s No Ceilings colleague, Corey Tulaba, added that there is different features of what is going on on with Brooklyn that must be understood just like the addition of Julius Randle who, regardless of Michael Porter Jr.’s soar final 12 months, is one thing the Nets — and Demin — did not have final 12 months: a longtime NBA star.

“That is an all-NBA participant who could make an affect on successful and has performed that at a number of stops,” Tulaba argued. “So now, you have received an opportunity to go different there not simply with a bunch of men who’re possibly studying the way to play collectively or guys who’re taking part in for themselves. You are going to play with veterans who know what to do. They’re actually constructing one thing cool in Brooklyn and it feels natural.”
To that time, Ghim famous that Demin shouted out different members of the Flatbush5, particularly Nolan Traore and Ben Saraf shifting ahead.
The 2 writers agreed that there is not a lot chance that issues in Brooklyn will take a giant leap this 12 months however as Ghim concluded, continuity must be a giant assist as they transfer alongside their NBA careers.
“The workforce feels they’re constructing out a workforce of men that may do stuff,” he famous. “Deliver totally different layers, totally different kinds as a workforce and them being so younger as they’re and constructing collectively and them actually believing in themselves and the group that they’ve, clearly it will not be this 12 months, however within the subsequent couple of years this can be an actual workforce to look at within the East.”

However, wait, there was extra!!
David Thorpe of True Hoop this week did an inventory of Ten guys who may make a giant distinction and he raved concerning the chance that the Nets eighth youngest participant, barely 22-year-old Noah Clowney, may have a breakout season. (We have written about Clowney a number of occasions this summer time, most not too long ago in these pages only a week in the past however Thorpe’s evaluation is new.)
The take has one enjoyable reality we had been unaware of which we highlighted in addition to a chance we hadn’t thought a lot about. Thorpe begins off by noting that he thought Clowney might have made a mistake declaring for the 2023 NBA Draft the place the Nets took him with the twenty first decide, making him the fourth youngest participant within the NBA. He was additionally their first return on the Kevin Durant commerce with Phoenix. However as he additionally notes, that is what over the dam:
I assumed it odd that Clowney left a terrific program at Alabama, recent off a Ultimate 4 look, after one season. He was in all probability too younger to reach the NBA, and will have made a ton in NIL cash!
So final season he entered this tier of gamers from whom I had no concept what to anticipate. And out of these gamers … he impressed me greater than anybody once I received to see him play in video games. Solely three gamers 21 or youthful averaged not less than 12 factors and took not less than 3.4 or extra free throws per recreation: Clowney, Cooper Flagg, and Stephon Fortress And he did that in solely 27 minutes per recreation.
He isn’t shooter. However at 33 p.c from 3, the place he is been for his two seasons, he is not unhealthy and there is each purpose to assume he’s due for a giant enchancment. He has quite a lot of recreation reducing, driving, slashing, and drawing fouls off these assaults. If his shot improves, I doubt it will be too lengthy earlier than he will get an opportunity to start out forward of Julius Randle. His protection should preserve bettering, however to me Clowney has the look of a beginning degree energy ahead who may even play some small ball 5.
For the file, Clowney averaged 12.3 factors on 40/33/80 capturing to associate with 4.3 boards, 0.8 steals and 0.7 blocks. As each Nets fan is aware of, there have been video games or sequence of video games the place he is gotten us all excited, like the ultimate week of the 2023-24 season when he had video games of seven and 4 blocks and the 14 video games final season the place had 4 or extra 3-pointers go in, together with video games of seven and 6 in a 10-day, five-game stretch.

He does that persistently and his restricted free company might be fascinating come July. The Nets can match any supply he may get (and there have been rumblings final season that the San Antonio Spurs may need curiosity.) Nonetheless, it was good to see the Thorpe evaluation. He didn’t embrace rookies or second 12 months gamers, it must be famous.
That is your weekly dose of optimism. Now you may learn what Channing Frye has to say concerning the Nets being “straight rubbish.” We cannot. We have been inundated with the damaging. We attempting for stability.
