Gervonta Davis has weighed in on the upcoming welterweight showdown between Ryan Garcia and Rolly Romero.
Garcia is set to face Romero for the vacant WBA ‘regular’ world welterweight title at the iconic Times Square in the heart of New York City on May 2.
It will be ‘King Ry’s first ring appearance in over 12 months after he was served with a 1-year suspension from boxing after he tested positive for the banned substance Ostarine in tests taken prior to his bout against Devin Haney last April.
One man who is all too familiar with Garcia and ‘Rolly’ is reigning WBA world lightweight champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, who holds impressive knockout victories over both men.
Speaking to FightHype, Davis was asked whether he believes ‘Rolly’ can pull off a shock upset against a man whose sole defeat came at the hands of ‘Tank’ back in 2023.
“Can Rolly pull off the upset? I don’t wanna say something crazy but yeah hopefully bro, hopefully for the sake of Rolly he can pull it off, but it’s going to be a good fight.”
‘Tank’ was then asked if he foresees the welterweight showdown ending with a knockout victory for either of his former opponents.
“Yeah, for sure, somebody’s getting knocked out.”
Garcia vs. Romero tops one of the biggest fight cards of the year to date, with Devin Haney also featuring in a showdown against former unified super-lightweight champion Jose Ramirez. WBO super-lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez also returns in a defence of his crown against mandatory challenger Arnold Barboza Jr.
