Quarterback Trae Taylor ranks among the top prospects in the Class of 2027. But while he’s got a few years before he’ll be ready for college, he’s ready to make his commitment now.
Speaking to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports, Taylor announced that he is committing to Nebraska. He picked the Cornhuskers over Illinois, Texas A&M and LSU.
“Committing to Nebraska is amazing but I still need to prove why I am the best player in 2027 this year,” he told the outlet.

Nebraska are getting a pretty good prospect in Taylor. 247Sports rates him as a four-star prospect and the No. 35 recruit in the Class of 2027. He is the No. 3 quarterback in the nation and the No. 2 player from the state of Illinois.
Taylor spoke glowingly of both the coaching staff and the academic programs.
“Coach Rhule has been a huge part of my recruitment. My relationship with him was the strongest of all the head coaches…” he said.
“The program for my degree is top notch and I feel will get me ready for life after football. Felt safe in Lincoln. Really excited about the strength and nutrition program and how they attack that. Last the fan base has been awesome.”

The 2024 college football season saw the Cornhuskers finally end a long drought of seasons without a bowl game or a winning record. They went 6-6 in the regular season before defeating Boston College to win the Pinstripe Bowl.
Freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola was one of the keys to the Huskers’ success as he completed 67.1-percent of his passes for 2,819 yards and 13 touchdowns, albeit with a Big Ten-leading 11 interceptions.

With Taylor coming into the fold, the Huskers might have a new heir-apparent in place for when Raiola has to depart.
In the meantime, the team is banking on Raiola to take a big step forward in 2025 in order to finally get the team closer to the top of the college football world.
Everything seems to be coming together for the Huskers right now. It sure would be nice to see the historic program playing consistently well again.
