After a disappointing early-playoff exit, it turns out that both of the Boston Celtics’ all-stars are injured.
Brown played through the injury for the final month of the regular season and the playoffs, Shelburne added.
Celtics’ leading scorer Jayson Tatum underwent surgery Tuesday to repair the ruptured right Achilles tendon he sustained in Game 4 of the team’s Eastern Conference semifinal matchup with the New York Knicks.
Brown, the 2024 NBA Finals MVP, averaged 22.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.2 steals during the regular season and maintained a similar stat line in playoffs.
The 28-year-old wing led Boston to a 127-102 Game 5 victory over the Knicks in Tatum’s absence with a 26-point, 12 assist double-double.
Brown will be evaluated in the week ahead to determine if surgery is needed.
