South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer believes he has a star on his hands in quarterback LaNorris Sellers, and that’s hard to argue.
Sellers was the 2025 SEC Freshman of the Year and the 2024 National Freshman Offensive Player of the Year. At 6-foot-3, 240 pounds and with incredible athleticism, he threw for 2,534 yards and 18 touchdowns compared to seven interceptions. He also rushed for 674 yards and seven touchdowns.
He was phenomenal, but according to Beamer, in a recent interview with Greg McElroy on “Always College Football,” Sellers has gotten even better over the past few months.
“He continued to get better throughout the year. He’s continued to get better since the season ended, through January, February, and then March and April with spring practice,” Beamer said (h/t On3).
The expected top quarterbacks of 2025 are all going to be an interesting watch. Clemson senior quarterback Cade Klubnik put up 4,102 yards of total offense last season between his arm and his legs to go along with 43 total touchdowns (seven on the ground).
Another senior, Drew Allar, has a stacked team around him at Penn State, which is a team that could realistically win it all.
Speaking of winning it all, the expectations are extremely high for Arch Manning over at Texas. This is despite the fact that he has only two starts under his belt as he takes over the Longhorns program after two seasons as Quinn Ewers’ backup. He’s a Manning, though. High expectations come with the territory.
There’s intrigue around those three quarterbacks, but still, Sellers is the one to watch in 2025. He has all the talent to win the Heisman Trophy, but he’s with a program that hasn’t won 10-plus games since 2013, when Steve Spurrier was head coach.
Beamer seems to have the Gamecocks going in the right direction, but South Carolina’s ultimate ceiling will come down to whether or not Sellers can hit his in year two.
That’s going to be fascinating to watch, because if he continues to get better, the Gamecocks could realistically make a run in the SEC. They went 9-4 last season (5-3 in the SEC) and had wins over No. 10 Texas A&M, No. 23 Missouri and No. 12 Clemson.
Sellers was a star in each of those games as he threw for a combined 761 yards and seven touchdowns (five against Mizzou) to go along with three touchdowns on the ground in those three contests.
He proved he could step up big when the lights shone brightest, so he has what it takes to lead South Carolina on a run this season — perhaps even to the College Football Playoff.
