Report: Ace Bailey cancels pre-draft workout with 76ers

While it’s still uncertain what the Philadelphia 76ers have up their sleeve for the upcoming NBA draft, it may not be an ace.

Star Rutgers wing Ace Bailey has cancelled his pre-draft workout with the 76ers, who own the No. 3 pick, ESPN’s Jonathan Givony reported Wednesday.

Bailey, considered to be the No. 3 prospect available by consensus mock drafts, was scheduled to fly to Philadelphia Friday for dinner with the team’s front office and a private workout, added Givony.

The six-foot-ten sharpshooter averaged 17.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.3 blocks, while shooting 46 per cent from the floor and 34.6 per cent from three in his one-and-done season with the Scarlet Knights.

Bailey, 18, is the only U.S.-based prospect yet to visit any NBA teams.

The 76ers have not ruled out drafting Bailey, according to Givony’s report. Philadelphia president of basketball operations Daryl Morey has previously chosen players without having conducted a private workout, including star guard Tyrese Maxey and last year’s first-round selection, Jared McCain.

Consensus No. 4 prospect V.J. Edgecombe reportedly worked out for the 76ers during the first week of June.
