Floyd Schofield: Tevin Farmer Doubts My Ability To Stand And “Bang” In Lightweight Bout

Floyd Schofield believes Tevin Farmer doubts his ability to stand in the pocket and “bang” with him in their 10-round lightweight fight this Saturday, June 28th, at the Honda Center, Anaheim.

Farmer Underestimates Schofield’s Pocket Fighting

Schofield (18-0, 12 KOs) thinks that Farmer’s last two fights against William Zepeda have given him the belief that he’s going to be able to out-punch him.

The former IBF super featherweight champion Farmer (33-8-1, 8 KOs) and Schofield, 22, will be fighting on the undercard of Jake Paul vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on DAZN PPV. The price of the event is $59.99. The event starts at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT.

Some fans believe Schofield will get cold feet and decide to pull out of the Farmer fight at the last minute. Floyd Jr. pulled out of his fight against WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson last February with a sudden illness. People believe Schofield got stage fright, losing his nerve to go through with the contest. So, he bowed out with an illness, leaving Shakur hanging.

There are many doubts about Schofield’s potential to be a good contender. No one sees him as a future world champion-level fighter. He’s seen as a future gatekeeper, and even that’s in question. If he loses to Farmer, it’ll put things in perspective.

Schofield: “I’m Bigger Than Him”

“He asked me yesterday during the face-off, ‘Do you think you’re stronger than me?’ ‘Hell, yeah. You see me in the gym every day.’ That’s not what I’m going into this fight banking on because I’m bigger than him,” said Schofield to MillCity Boxing about Farmer.

Given that Schofield struggled to beat non-contender Rene Tellez Giron by a 12-round decision last November, he’s not a bigger puncher than Farmer. What Schofield does have is size. He’s huge for a lightweight and should be fighting at light welterweight. It’s understandable why he chooses to stay at lightweight because he’s got more of a chance of carving out a living in this weight class.

“This is my first time being in there with a world-class fighter who actually has a grown man’s body. I think he was trying to troll because of the Keyshawn situation. I’m coming in on weight. I never missed weight,” said Schofield.
