For the second night in a row, Stuart Fairchild starts in place of Michael Harris. Don’t call it a platoon. But the Atlanta Braves are clearly over letting players just work it out, and they’re trying to utilize any advantage they can in order to pull themselves back from the brink. This could just be giving Harris a few days off in order to reset, but it’s worth monitoring. Meanwhile, Marcell Ozuna is hitting .196/.273/.299 for the month of June, which is good enough for a wRC+ of 57. The Statcast measurements still stand-up, so this is probably more of an inevitable down month. But woof.
Notorious Braves killer, Trea Turner is having a career year. Hitting .299/.352/.460, he has already been worth nearly 4 wins as his defense looks better, and he’s been available. I’m not sure Turner really ends up being talked about as one of the best players of his generation, but he’s at around 45 wins for his career, and he’s had 3 seasons over 5 wins (with another in 2020 that could have been). He definitely always seems to kill the Braves, but the truth is that he basically kills every team.
