Urban Meyer Makes Opinion On Deion Sanders Extremely Clear

Deion Sanders, Colorado Band Story Isn’t True (1:28)

Urban Meyer knows a thing or two about leading a college football program. After all, he had success at Bowling Green, Florida, Ohio State and Utah.

On the latest episode of “The Triple Option” podcast, Meyer revealed his unfiltered thoughts on Colorado head coach Deion Sanders. The Hall of Famer is entering his third year with the Buffaloes. After going 4-8 during his first year at the helm, he led the program to a 9-4 record in 2024.

Meyer admit that he’s not a fan of Colorado’s flashy appearance, but he loves the work Sanders has put in behind the scenes.

“I got to go backstage and watched them practice. I see the watches and the cars and all of the flash – it’s just not me,” Meyer said. “But when I saw what went on behind the scenes, there’s a culture there. He’s tough on them, man. He’s demanding of that team. That’s what blew my mind.”

Meyer continued, “There’s no waste of time. They went out to work and they left. During those two hours, it was go time. I’ve been to other teams’ practices where I thought they’re wasting time.”

Meyer believes this season will be Sanders’ toughest yet, especially since Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders are gone.

“He set a standard. Once you hit a nine-win (season), it’s almost like, ok, the crowd will start to thin out if they start losing, and then you got some issues,” Meyer said, via SI. “They’ve been the talk of college football, and the other thing I want to point out is that this Colorado team, we don’t know what it’s gonna look like. We knew last year what it was gonna look like. You had Travis Hunter, you had Shedeur, you had a certain look to it. This will be completely different. They don’t have the transfer portal, the 40 guys, it’s much less.”

Colorado will begin its 2025 season on Aug. 29 against Georgia Tech.
