Ahead of their inaugural season in the National Women’s Soccer League, Boston Legacy FC announced they signed their first-ever player, American midfielder Annie Karich. Karich signed as a free agent from SC Freiburg of the Frauen-Bundesliga through the end of the 2027 season, with an option for 2028. The 21-year-old is on loan to a to-be-announced Liga MX Femenil club for the remainder of 2025 and will join Boston for preseason in January.
“We’re very excited to welcome Annie Karich to Boston,” said general manager Domè Guasch in a press release for Legacy FC. “Annie is a midfielder that brings a unique blend of technical quality and tactical awareness. In her time at SC Freiburg, she has also proved her competitiveness and maturity on the field. Annie has the potential to make a real impact in our team. We’re looking forward to supporting her development within our environment.”
Karich made 36 appearances over two seasons in Germany, playing primarily as a defensive midfielder. She initially turned pro after just two years at Santa Clara, where she was named West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2023. The defensive player recorded 10 assists and scored two goals as a Bronco.
“I want to grow by developing my overall game as a player and by learning how to adapt again into a new city, new team, and everything, and I’m really excited to do that here in Boston,” said Karich, who hails from Surfside, California.
Karich has also represented the United States women’s national team at multiple youth levels — U23, U20, U17 and U15.
Last month, the NWSL announced new roster-building mechanisms available to expansion teams. This includes a limited salary cap of $250,000, beginning on July with the opening of the secondary transfer window, to sign college players or out-of-contract international players through the end of 2025.
Following the recent announcement of their head coach, Filipa Patão, and Karich’s signing, Boston Legacy has taken its first solid steps towards fielding a team in 2026 after a successful rebrand.
