The sporting world lost a legend this week as former high school QB, coach, football analyst, lawyer and motivational speaker Tim Strachan passed away at the age of 49.
Strachan was considered a top college QB prospect heading into his senior year of high school in 1993. But a tragic swimming accident left him paralyzed and ended his career. He overcame his paralysis to enjoy an incredible successful career wearing a variety of different hats, all while retaining his love of the game that was taken from him.
Over the past few days, the people and organizations who knew him best have been paying tribute to Strachan across the internet:

A 1999 graduate of Maryland, Tim served as a student assistant coach and later joined Johnny Holliday in the broadcast booth. Tim was an incredible motivational speaker that inspired all of us throughout his life. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of Tim’s family and friends,” the Maryland football team shared on X.

“I was lucky. I was fortunate. Fortunate to be close to Tim “T Bird” Strachan. Fortunate to grow up around his greatness. Fortunate to learn from him — about leadership, resilience, loyalty, and life. Tim, thank you for your example. We will carry your lessons with us forever,” former Maryland QB Scott McBrien wrote.

“Tim Strachan was a true inspiration. An elite QB prospect who suffered a tragic injury at Bethany Beach in 1993. He overcame that and became a lawyer, Maryland football analyst for 20+ seasons, & motivational speaker. Rest in Peace to a DMV legend,” Sirius XM’s Tim Murray shared.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Tim Strachan ’94, after battling cancer for over a year now. Tim was a great Stag. We will have much more on Tim and his legacy in the next few days. Rest in Peace brother,” his alma mater DeMatha Catholic High School wrote.
“Tim Strachan was a T5 QB in the Class of ’94 out of DeMatha Catholic High School in Maryland, an elite QB class that included Peyton Manning. Tim’s CFB dreams were dashed when he was paralyzed in a diving accident just before his senior year. But he was undaunted, and used his story as a testimony that inspired countless people. Tim passed today. He was 49,” wrote ESPN’s Marty Smith.
