South Korean star Son Heung-Min has revealed his plan to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer transfer window. Son revealed the plan during the London club’s press conference ahead of their friendly game in Korea

Son Decided to Leave Tottenham Hotspur

After spending 10 years with the Lilywhites, the South Korean captain has announced his plan to leave the club this summer. Son revealed his plan to leave Tottenham during their recent press conference in his home nation, ahead of their pre-season friendly clash against Newcastle United on Sunday.

The 33-year-old has been struggling to maintain his starting spot in the final part of last season and is unlikely to change under the new boss, Thomas Frank, this season.  Although he didn’t give a detailed explanation of his reason to leave, Sonny seems keen to end his Tottenham chapter on a high, following their success in lifting the Europa League trophy last season.

“I have decided to leave the club this summer. Respectfully, the club is helping me with this decision,” Son stated in the press conference.

Without any guarantee of being the main man at Spurs anymore, the 33-year-old may believe it’s time for him to look for a new adventure. Sonny didn’t mention any potential destination just yet, but he’s grateful that the club are facilitating his departure.

Sonny Likely Heading to MLS

According to media reports, including from The Athletic and Fabrizio Romano, MLS club LAFC could be Son’s destination. There are other potential interests, especially from Saudi clubs, but it looks like the United States is the attacker’s preferred choice.

Sonny arrived at Tottenham in 2015, after spending two good seasons with Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen. The Korean skipper started his professional career in Europe after moving to Hamburg SV at a young age and made his senior debut in 2010.

Now, it looks like he could be ending his chapter in European football, especially if he does accept the move to LAFC. Playing in MLS might also be good enough preparation for him to play in the 2026 World Cup for his national team.
