Training camps have kicked off around the NFL, and our team reporters are on the ground each day following all the action. The Los Angeles Rams’ camp is taking place in Los Angeles, and Rams reporter Sarah Barshop has the latest intel on standouts, highlights, position battles, depth chart movement, cut decisions and of course the quarterback room.
What follows is everything we are seeing and hearing at Rams camp. We will update this file often. Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford will be limited to start training camp as he deals with back soreness. Meanwhile, running back Kyren Williams — entering the final season of his rookie deal — reported to training camp and will participate in practices. Who are the breakout players to watch, especially for fantasy football? And which players on the roster bubble could make the final 53?

Sunday, Aug. 3
Sean McVay said quarterback Matthew Stafford won’t take part in the jog thru on Monday because he’ll be doing a workout on his own during that time period.
Stafford has yet to take part in a training camp practice as he deals with back soreness. Last week, McVay said the Rams have “a plan in place” for Stafford, he didn’t want to specify a date in case it changes. McVay has already ruled out Stafford’s participation in the Rams’ joint practice against the Cowboys on Tuesday.
When asked what Stafford’s workout will entail on Monday, McVay said, “It’s static throwing. It’s some of the unloaded running on the treadmill. Sometimes it might even be walking.”
“He’s able to do a little bit of lighter cardio and able to do some good core work, but it’s more just functional strength surrounding the area while making sure that you don’t do anything to set yourself back based on the trajectory that he’s doing,” McVay said. “But we are looking forward to getting him and easing him back into football, hopefully in the near future.”
In Stafford’s absence, Jimmy Garoppolo has been taking the first-team reps at quarterback and is expected to take the majority of the snaps during the joint practice. Stetson Bennett IV, a 2023 fourth-round pick, is expected to start for the Rams during the preseason.

The Rams’ running backs had a strong day of camp on Sunday, with long runs by Kyren Williams, Blake Corum and Ronnie Rivers. “I thought the backs are really doing a good job pressing the line of scrimmage,” McVay said.
Wide receiver Davante Adams (veteran rest day) may not have practiced on Sunday, but his presence was felt on the sidelines. During the practice it seemed like Adams was constantly talking to a teammate, especially the young receivers in his room. Earlier in camp, McVay said he has been impressed when he’s heard from wide receivers coach Eric Yarber and other coaches about Adams’ ability “to communicate in a clear way that guys can digest” in the meeting rooms and on the field.
Right tackle Rob Havenstein and tight end Tyler Higbee were also given veteran rest days on Sunday.
Sunday was the Rams’ final training camp practice at Loyola Marymount University this year. They will hold a jog thru on Monday before going to Oxnard, Calif. for the joint practice on Tuesday.
Saturday, Aug. 2
Coach Sean McVay did not have an update for when Matthew Stafford would return to practice as the quarterback deals with back soreness. McVay did say Stafford would not return to joint practice against the Cowboys on Tuesday in Oxnard, California.
“It truly is a week-to-week thing,” McVay said. “And what I don’t want to do is set a timeline. I know he is making good progress. Saw Dr. [Robert] Watkins again today, everything is in good shape.”
While McVay ruled Stafford out for Tuesday’s joint practice, he said “we’ll see” about Stafford’s availability for the Rams’ Aug. 13 joint practice against the Chargers. Because the Rams do not typically play their starters in preseason games, those joint practices are considered significant reps for their players.

Rookie tight end Terrance Ferguson did not practice on Saturday with “a little groin” strain.
McVay said defensive tackle Kobie Turner was held out of practice because “his back’s bothering him a little bit. So we’re going to be smart with him,” McVay said.
Linebacker Nate Landman, who has been a standout during training camp so far, left practice with a calf injury. McVay said the Rams were erring “on the side of caution” with Landman.
Future Hall of Fame defensive tackle Aaron Donald watched practice at LMU on Saturday. “He is really special to me,” McVay said. “He’s really special to this place and his impact is so significant and so when he comes around, it sure means a lot. And when he speaks, guys certainly listen.”

Thursday, July 31
On the last practice of the Rams’ second block of training camp practices, coach Sean McVay had a pair of injury updates.
Cornerback Emmanuel Forbes Jr. is expected to miss one to two weeks after feeling a tweak in his hamstring. McVay reiterated that the Rams are trying to be careful because it is a soft tissue injury.
Safety Kamren Curl is week-to-week after he got his foot stepped on and rolled his ankle Tuesday. McVay said the Rams were “really fortunate” that the injury was not as bad as the team initially feared.
The Rams are off Friday before beginning their final block of training camp practices at Loyola Marymount University.

Wednesday, July 30
Through two padded practices, new Rams inside linebacker Nate Landman has stood out during training camp. Landman, who signed a one-year deal in free agency, “has some natural leadership traits and characteristics,” coach Sean McVay said.
“I think you’re innately thrust into that when you play an inside linebacker position,” McVay said on Tuesday. “He’s just got a good feel. He’s got great awareness, a good understanding of how to be able to positively uplift his teammates and challenge them in the right way. I love what this guy is about.”
Landman spent the first three seasons of his NFL career in Atlanta, including the 2024 season under Falcons head coach and former Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris.
“I almost want to call him ‘Peanut Punch Landman,'” safety Quentin Lake said. “He has just a knack for the ball. We see so many clips — Coach McVay shows them in the team meeting room — of him doing it in Atlanta and then you see it out here and you understand why he’s able to cause those turnovers.”

The Rams held a jog-thru on Wednesday, but cornerback Emmanuel Forbes Jr. (hamstring) and safety Kamren Curl (ankle) did not participate. Both players left practice on Tuesday.
Tuesday, July 29
Rams second-year running back Blake Corum has shown off his speed and some explosiveness during training camp, including a long run early during Tuesday’s practice. Coach Sean McVay said he thinks Corum has “had a really good camp.”
“He’s one of those guys that because of how conscientious he is, he’s just going to improve into his second year,” McVay said.
Corum, a third-round pick who fractured his arm during the Rams’ 2024 regular-season finale, had only 58 carries for 207 yards last season playing behind Kyren Williams.
Although the two sides have discussed a contract extension, Williams enters the final season of his rookie contract without a new deal. If Williams does not re-sign in Los Angeles, Corum could have a larger role in this Rams offense in 2026.

Cornerback Emmanuel Forbes Jr. did not finish practice after he “felt his hamstring a little bit,” McVay said. The head coach said Forbes tried to take the first team reps during practice, but McVay and assistant head coach Aubrey Pleasant decided to “be smart with him,” especially because it was a soft-tissue injury.
Safety Kamren Curl also left practice early after he got his ankle stepped on, McVay said.
Monday, July 28
Coach Sean McVay praised the Rams’ defense on a run-heavy first day of pads Monday, saying he thought the unit “had a really good sense of urgency.” McVay praised inside linebacker Nate Landman’s “leadership” and said “you really felt Jared Verse’s presence.”
Nose tackle Poona Ford, who signed a three-year deal with the Rams this offseason, made an impression on defensive tackle Kobie Turner. Turner said Ford showed “his worth” on Monday because of how well he can stop the run.
“The way that he commands attention, the way that he defeats double teams and then, obviously, he has a lot of pass rush ability that’s going to be able to help us as well,” Turner said. “And that’s shown on the other days, but today was run heavy and, man, he showed up today really big.”
Ford faced double-teams on 62.1% of his pass-rush snaps last season, which ranked 17th in the NFL.

Because the Rams had so many carries today, 2025 fourth-round pick Jarquez Hunter and Blake Corum saw more opportunities than they had in earlier practices during the acclimation period. McVay said Hunter, who saw some time with the first team, “is continuing to show improvement.” McVay added: “He’s heavy, he’s got a great body. And even though we’re not truly tackling, you can feel that he is heavy through the hole.”
Saturday, July 26
Second-year receiver Jordan Whittington continued what has been a strong camp on Saturday, including catching a deep ball from quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo that drew a big applause from the fans in attendance. After practice, coach Sean McVay said he has been “super impressed” with Whittington, praising how strong and “conscientious” the receiver is.
“He’s got the ability to play all three spots,” McVay said. “He can really compete in the run game, and I think he’s really continuing to increase his route volume. He’s played really well.”
Whittington, a sixth-round pick in 2024, had 22 catches for 293 yards as a rookie. He is competing for the Rams’ No. 3 receiver spot with Tutu Atwell and Xavier Smith.

Cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon and rookie linebacker Pooh Paul Jr. have not been practicing as they both deal with calf injuries, McVay said. Witherspoon is day-to-day. “We’re just being smart with Pooh,” McVay said.
Kicker Joshua Karty, who is entering his second season, had a kick that went over the building at LMU on Saturday. On the next attempt, the Rams moved back the goalposts. McVay said he has been “super impressed” with Karty’s “mental resolve” and noted the rapport that has grown between him, punter Ethan Evans and long snapper Alex Ward.
Friday, July 25
The Rams held a jog-thru on Friday, which allowed left tackle Alaric Jackson to take part in some team activities. Jackson had been limited to individual drills through the first two practices as he deals with blood clots in his lower legs.
During the first two practices, it was newly signed veteran tackle D.J. Humphries and 2023 fifth-round pick Warren McClendon Jr. who have rotated in. Head coach Sean McVay said earlier in the week that the left tackle spot is “going to be a really important spot for us to be able to develop with an optimistic and a hopeful approach that Alaric is going to continue to work and be ready whenever he gets cleared.”
Thursday, July 24
The Rams’ plan for a modified schedule for several veteran players was apparent on Thursday, as right tackle Rob Havenstein, tight end Tyler Higbee and wide receiver Davante Adams did not practice. The goal, head coach Sean McVay said, is to keep players going into Year 10 or later “as fresh as possible.”
McVay said because there isn’t an overlap of players who fall into that category right now, the Rams will try to keep the group together on Day 2 of the four-day block. Doing so will allow Los Angeles to “try to make it consistent where the rapport for our offensive guys that we project to be able to play together as much as possible.”

Wednesday, July 23
Quarterback Matthew Stafford spent the Rams’ first practice of training camp working inside with the training staff as he deals with back soreness. Coach Sean McVay said while Stafford could be out at practice, it feels more beneficial to have him working to the side in an effort to get the quarterback to feel “as good as he can” before he returns to practice.
The plan is for Stafford to return to practice Monday, which is the first day the Rams will practice in pads. After Stafford returns for “block two” of practice, he will continue to be on a modified schedule, along with many other of the veterans with at least 10 years in the NFL.

McVay called the meeting between the Rams and running back Kyren Williams’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus, “positive,” but said he has no news to report about a contract extension. “As far as I know, nothing has been agreed upon,” McVay said. “But I think there’s a lot of good intentions on trying to be able to get that done. We’ll see if that ends up happening.”
Third-year receiver Puka Nacua has spoken highly of wide receiver Davante Adams, saying he has learned a lot from not only watching the veteran, but also hearing from him in the meeting room. “It makes it fun to watch tape and to be like, ‘OK, how can I add some of these things to my toolbox?'” Nacua said.
Nacua also said he asked Adams to lead the receiver group drills. He said he has “a huge amount of respect” for Adams’ game. “When I was in the front I was like, I’m trying to sprint as fast as I can so I can turn around and watch him,” Nacua said. “So I was like, ‘Hey, I think it’ll make my job a little bit easier if you just go first.'”
Tuesday, July 22
Amid contract extension negotiations, Kyren Williams reported to training camp and said he will participate in practices. Williams, who is entering the final season of his rookie deal, said he anticipates getting a contract extension done with Los Angeles.
“I want to play for the Rams,” Williams said. “That’s who I want to be with. That’s who I want to stay with. I know it will work out.”
Williams said he doesn’t have a timeline for when that deal might get done but said that would not affect his availability for the start of the season. Rams coach Sean McVay said the team and Williams’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus, will meet on Wednesday to continue to work on a deal.
Williams was the Rams’ clear RB1 last season, posting 1,299 yards and 14 touchdowns on 316 carries. He also caught 34 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns.

Right tackle Rob Havenstein, who had offseason procedures on both of his shoulders, said he will be ready to go when the Rams begin practicing on Wednesday.
Defensive end Braden Fiske said he will be a full go to start training camp after the procedure he had on his right knee during the offseason. Fiske injured his knee during the Rams’ playoff loss to the Eagles.
