Real Madrid Edged Atletico, Arsenal Win Big in UCL | Football news at 1000Goals.com: Football Betting, Highlights, and More

Real Madrid struck the first blow in the UEFA Champions League last-16 round after beating Atletico 2-1 at Santiago Bernebau. Meanwhile, the Gunners are one step away from advancing into the next round after trashing the home team, PSV Eindhoven, 7-1.

Madrid Narrowly Beat Atletico at Bernabeu

Los Blancos were playing host in the first round of Champions League last 16 on Tuesday, and it was a positive result for Carlo Ancelotti’s men. Madrid picked up a slender win in front of their home fans thanks to goals from Rodrygo, who scored after four minutes and Brahim Diaz’s strike early in the second half.

Atleti put on a solid fight, though, as they pulled one goal back with an effort from Julian Alvarez in 32 minutes. That scoreline means that Madrid are from securing a place in the next round and must battle hard to eliminate Diego Simeone’s men, who will be playing at home in the second leg.

Arsenal Win Big Away to PSV

Meanwhile, The Gunners also hit the headlines on UCL Tuesday as they destroyed their opponent 7-1 despite playing away from home. Arsenal are the favorite to beat the Dutch side, but the scoreline was a massive surprise, considering PSV were playing in front of its home crowd.

The home team were coming off an impressive win over Juventus in the playoff round, so there was some expectation that the match would be a tight one. However, Arsenal, who have been struggling in front of goals, didn’t find much problem in breaking down PSV’s defense.

Goals from Jurrien Timber, Ethan Nwaneri, Mikel Merino, Leandro Trossard, Ricardo Calafiori and Martin Odegaard’s brace stunned the home crowd. PSV themselves can only snatch one goal back through Noah Lang’s spot-kick just before the half-time break.

This result pretty much secured Arsenal’s place in the quarterfinals, as it’s unlikely to see them losing a 7-1 aggregate at home next week. Nevertheless, PSV will still give their best shot in their second match battle at Emirates.
