Moses Itauma’s Claim: Fan Criticism Comes From Insecurity, And His Desire For A Mayweather-Like Career

Moses Itauma says he wants to have a career like Floyd Mayweather, where he makes “a lot of money” and gets out of the sport with “no damage.” Itauma states that fans who criticize are “insecure” and are projecting their dissatisfaction with their own lives onto others to feel better about themselves.

It’s an interesting idea that Itauma (12-0, 10 KOs) has about fans that criticize him, but it’s entirely way off base. Itauma sounds like he’s searching for a reason to dodge criticism about his career and his inflated 12-0 record.

Itauma’s Mayweather Career Aspirations

“I don’t want it to be like, ‘Yeah, that guy whooped my a**. He handed it to me,’” said Moses Itauma to the Ring Magazine channel, discussing his desire never to lose. “I don’t want anyone to say that. I want to be a Floyd Mayweather, where he made a lot of money in the sport, came out with his brains intact, no damage, and nobody can say, ‘I f**** him up.’ That’s the career that I want.”

Itauma is NOT going to be another Mayweather unless he continues to be matched against the same woeful opposition that he’s been facing since he turned professional. The guys that Itauma has been facing are the worst bunch of fighters for someone who is being hyped the way he is. His career is 100% artificially manufactured.

Itauma’s Last Six Opponents

Demsey McKean: 34
Mariusz Wach: 45
Ilja Mezencev: 29
Dan Garber: 40
Michal Boloz: 36

Fan Criticism Stems from Insecurity

“When people are insecure about themselves, they put a little bit of pressure on someone else, hoping that they’re going to break because it makes them feel better,” said Itauma about his belief that any criticism directed at him.

Why Fans Criticize Fighters

Fans criticize fighters like Itauma and Floyd because they see cherry picking, and they’re calling it out. It has nothing to do with fans being insecure with themselves and wanting to bring someone else down to feel better about themselves. When you see someone being selective in the opposition that they’re facing, as Itauma has been doing his entire 12-fight professional career, you’re going to point it out.

Itauma is trying to understand why fans are trashing him. How can he not know? Is he intentionally being slow? When you’re fighting 45 and 41-year-old fighters, building a fake record, and then using a washed-up Dillian Whyte as your opponent, are fans not supposed to say something about it? How does that make them “insecure” when they’re pointing out the obvious? Itauma is really reaching with his hair-brained ideas.

“With Floyd Mayweather, he was such a good boxer, 50-0, people are insecure about that people don’t want to accept that reality,” said Itauma.”So, they put a bit of doubt and pressure on Floyd Mayweather to get him to crack just so they can feel better. I don’t look at it from that perspective. I look at it as he’s achieved a lot.”

It sounds like someone has been pumping some wacky ideas into Itauma’s head to give him a warped view about criticism. The reason fans criticized Mayweather wasn’t because they were insecure.

They saw the selective matchmaking being done by Floyd; they witnessed his controversial decisions over Jose Luis Castillo and Marcos Maidana. They saw how Mayweather selected the 0-0 novice, Conor McGregor, as his opponent to break Rocky Marciano’s 49-0 record.

Fans noted how Mayweather dodged Keith Thurman and Errol Spence when they were in their prime, choosing to fight a McGregor, Maidana x 2, Robert Guerrero, washed Andre Berto and Manny Pacquiao.

It’s understandable why Moses Itauma is fawning over Mayweather, because he was too young to see what Floyd was doing during his career in terms of cherry-picking opponents. Itauma was just a kid when Mayweather was fighting.

For those who were around then, they saw how calculated he was, dodging fighters that would have beaten him, and getting controversial decisions to preserve his unbeaten record. The selection of Conor McGregor to be used to break Marciano’s record was wretched. How was that fight even sanctioned? Itauma clearly doesn’t see what was going on back then.
