Arsenal snatched Eberechi Eze amid Tottenham Hotspurs' interest on the England international midfielder.

Arsenal made a swift move in hijacking Eberechi Eze’s deal, despite the player being reportedly close to signing for Tottenham Hotspur. The Gunners decided to get into the market and snatch the England international following the injury to Kai Havertz.

A few days ago, Eze was set to join Tottenham, as a personal agreement was no issue for both sides. Spurs were close to finalizing the club-to-club deal with Crystal Palace, but the situation suddenly changed.

Arsenal Beat Spurs for Eze’s Signature

Just as Tottenham were ready to submit their official offer, the Gunners suddenly swooped in to secure the deal. Arsenal agreed terms for a fee worth 60 million pounds with Palace, while getting Eze’s approval was never a problem for Mikel Arteta’s side.

It was certainly a disappointing episode for Spurs, as they believed they were close to snatching their midfield target. However, according to The Independent, Arsenal’s quick deal is not just a sudden move, as it’s something they previously planned.

The Gunners already had an interest in Eze since early in the summer transfer window, putting him on their list. However, it looks like Arteta’s side were not going to follow up on their interest and was considering other options.

That situation suddenly changed after Havertz picked up a knee injury during training, which will see him out for a while. Keen on immediately filling up the German international role, Arsenal return to Eze and make that swift deal.

The player will reportedly take his medical on Friday, before eventually signing his contract to be the Gunners’ new signing. As for Spurs, they will now need to look at other options to fill that attacking midfielder position.
