Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate (20-10) has opened up about the state of her professional mixed martial arts career.
“Cupcake” Tate, 39, once left the UFC and the sport of MMA before becoming an executive for ONE in Singapore. After returning to action in 2021, Tate has won two of five fights under the UFC banner.
Following her unanimous decision loss to Yana Santos in May, Tate kind of left the door open, not really saying if she was going to retire for a second time.
Now, while speaking on the JAXXON Podcast, Tate reveals her intentions to compete once more.
“I’m not officially done,” Tate said. “I still have a fight on my contract. I wouldn’t fight more than one more time. I’m not looking to re-sign. I think just one more, if that. But I haven’t decided for sure. I might be leaning towards not.”
Would Tate compete in a combat sport outside the octagon?
“Boxing for real? Like, I’m not going to go do that,” she said. “Maybe some grappling competitions. Or even under the UFC banner. Maybe something like that, but we’ll see. I don’t know. I’m getting old, you know.”
Tate does not currently have a fight booked but it appears that she fully intends to honor her contract and compete for the UFC at least once more.
