Bowling Green has been looking for a new head football coach since Scot Loeffler left to be the Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback coach.

Loeffler had been the head coach for the past six seasons, compiling a 27-41 record. Bowling Green has played in a bowl game in each of the last three seasons, losing all three. He led the program to a 7-6 record during the 2024 season before leaving for the Eagles.

Bowling Green has been doing some interviews for Loeffler’s replacement and according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Tennessee State head coach Eddie George has emerged as a strong candidate for the job.

He is one of three finalists for the job after being interviewed by the school on Friday.

George has been the head coach at Tennessee State for the last four seasons and led the program to a 9-4 record during the 2024 season. He also guided the program to the FCS playoffs.

Before getting into coaching, George was an Ohio State standout from 1992-95 and won the Heisman Trophy in 1995. He finished the 1995 season with 303 carries for 1,826 yards and 23 touchdowns.

He finished his four-year collegiate career with 643 carries for 3,578 yards and 43 touchdowns.

George then played in the NFL for nine seasons (1996-2004) for three different teams. He started his career with the Houston Oilers in 1996 before spending the next seven seasons with the Titans. He then played one season with the Dallas Cowboys in 2004 before retiring.

He compiled seven 1,000-yard seasons during his NFL career and is still the Titans’ all-time leading rusher with 10,009 yards. The Titans later retired his No. 27 jersey since he is one of the best players in franchise history.

Let’s see if he gets hired by Bowling Green over the next week or two.
