Sources – Lions re-signing Davenport to 1-year contract

The Detroit Lions are re-signing defensive end Marcus Davenport to a one-year deal worth up to $4.75 million, sources confirmed to ESPN on Saturday.

The Lions signed Davenport to a one-year, $7.095 million contract in free agency last year after his one season with the Minnesota Vikings (2023) and five with the New Orleans Saints (2018-22).

However, Davenport, 28, appeared in just two games during the 2024 season. He missed Week 2 with a groin injury after registering a half-sack in Detroit’s overtime victory over the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1. He then was ruled out for the season with a torn triceps after a Week 3 win against the Arizona Cardinals.

Injuries have been a common theme in Davenport’s career since he entered the NFL as a first-round pick by the New Orleans Saints in 2018. Injuries limited him to 63 appearances in five seasons with the Saints, and in 2023, with the Vikings, he appeared in just four games due to a right ankle injury.

In 69 career games (36 starts), he has registered 151 tackles (82 solo), 68 quarterback hits, 27 tackles for loss, 24 sacks, seven forced fumbles, four passes defended and one fumble recovery.

NFL Network first reported Davenport’s re-signing.

ESPN’s Eric Woodyard contributed to this report.
