All of the sudden, the Braves are an absolute juggernaut when they play on Sundays. After what seems like a few seasons of struggling with Sunday games, the Braves have now won 6 times over the past 7 games that finished on a Sunday. Its a nice course reversal from earlier this season, as ending the weekend with a win is always better than the alternative.
Speaking of success, Matt Olson has found exactly that when it comes to mashing the baseball again. Olson connected with his 24th home run of the season on Sunday, and now is producing a 172 wRC+. It has been a down year for both Olson and the Braves in the power department, so seeing that he is back to driving the baseball well is a good note to end the season on. Furthermore, with one more home run, he will continue the Braves streak of having at least one player with 25 home runs in a normal full season. Hopefully Olson will hit a few more for good measure as he progresses ever closer to 300 career homers (Today was 284.)
Outfielder Jake Fraley was added to the injured list due to an oblique injury. Ace relief arm/pinch running savant Luke Williams was brought back to the majors in a corresponding move.
It was another historic home run for Cal Raleigh. He matched Mickey Mantle’s record for most home runs (54) by a switch-hitter in a single season. He also set a new record for most home runs hit while playing the catcher position in a season (43), surpassing former Braves Javy Lopez.
Jose Quintana will have his calf looked at via an MRI.
Trey Yesavage, one of the top right-handed prospects in baseball, will make his MLB debut for the Blue Jays on Monday.
