Who’s next? The Premier League managers now fighting for survival after Nuno’s exit

It’s only three weeks into the Premier League season, but we already have our first managerial casualty. Nottingham Forest pulled the trigger on Nuno Espirito Santo after a turbulent start to the campaign, making him the earliest sacking of the season. His departure has only intensified speculation about who could be next, with the managerial sack race now wide open. With football free bets placing the spotlight on the next name likely to fall, attention has quickly shifted to a handful of coaches who are already under intense scrutiny.

Nuno Espirito Santo – First manager out

Nuno’s time at Nottingham Forest was always precarious. Tensions with the club’s ownership were well documented, and disagreements over transfers, tactics, and training ground methods created an atmosphere that was toxic from the outset. While results on the pitch were not disastrous, the off-field disputes proved fatal. Forest decided to act swiftly rather than let the situation fester, making Nuno the first manager to be shown the door this season.

The decision was not a huge shock to many observers, but it does set the tone for what could be a ruthless campaign when it comes to managerial stability. Forest now face the task of finding a replacement who can both unite the squad and work within the owner’s demanding framework.

Ruben Amorim – Manchester United (11/4)

If Nuno’s sacking was predictable, Ruben Amorim’s shaky start at Manchester United has been far more surprising. The Portuguese coach arrived at Old Trafford with a glowing reputation, but his early tenure has been marred by a humiliating Carabao Cup exit to League Two side Grimsby. The manner of the defeat United looked disjointed and uninspired has raised questions about whether Amorim is capable of handling the pressure of such a high-profile job.

A dramatic late penalty salvaged three points against Burnley, easing the pressure slightly, but Amorim’s side have yet to find consistency. With expectations sky-high at United, another poor run could see the club’s hierarchy forced into difficult decisions.

Graham Potter – West Ham (4/1)

Back in Premier League management, Graham Potter has endured a rocky start at West Ham. Heavy defeats to Sunderland and Chelsea left supporters concerned, and an early League Cup exit to Wolves only deepened frustrations.

A 3-0 win away at Nottingham Forest was a much-needed response and hinted at what Potter can bring if given time. However, doubts remain about the team’s defensive resilience and overall intensity. West Ham’s board are thought to be committed to giving Potter the patience he needs to build, but football rarely offers managers unlimited time. A few bad results could quickly change the mood in east London.

Others on the radar

Beyond the big names, there are several other managers who could soon come under the microscope. Vítor Pereira at Wolves has yet to fully win over supporters, despite managing a decent cup run. Daniel Farke’s Leeds side remain unpredictable, capable of strong performances one week and fragile collapses the next. Meanwhile, Keith Andrews at Brentford is still searching for the formula to make his team look truly convincing, with recent results suggesting a rocky road ahead.

None of these managers are in immediate crisis, but as we’ve just seen with Nuno, situations can deteriorate quickly. For punters looking to place a free bet on the next manager to lose his job, keeping an eye on these names might prove worthwhile.

Verdict: Who’s next?

With Nuno Espirito Santo already gone, the pressure now shifts firmly onto others. Amorim at Manchester United is arguably the most high-profile candidate, though the club may be reluctant to make a drastic decision so early. Graham Potter occupies the “danger zone,” with one bad week potentially undoing any goodwill his recent win earned. Pereira, Farke, and Andrews are not under immediate threat but remain only a poor run away from serious questions being asked.

History tells us the first sacking is rarely the last. With the season still in its infancy, the only certainty is that the Premier League sack race is just getting started.
