Texas A&M basketball ranked 36th in Jon Rothstein’s Top 45 rankings

Texas A&M’s basketball coach, Bucky McMillan, will enter his inaugural season with a roster built to make a run to the NCAA Tournament after landing 12 players from the transfer portal, led by forward Mackenzie Mgbako and veteran guard Pop Isaacs, who are poised to lead the Aggies in several categories.

During his first offseason, McMillan has been focused on installing the playbook, while his talented roster needs to gain chemistry early to avoid any droughts before conference play begins. After the non-conference schedule was released, Aggie fans now have a better understanding of the challenges this team will face before SEC play, including early tests against Oklahoma State, Florida State, Pittsburgh, and other notable opponents.

On Friday, CBS Sports college basketball analyst Jon Rothstein released his updated pre-season top-45 rankings, placing the Aggies at No. 36. While Texas A&M likely won’t be ranked in the top 25 in most media outlets before the 2025-2026 season, Rothstein and many others believe that if McMillan lives up to his potential, his first roster could make a deep run in the postseason.

Here is Rothstein’s projected starting five and bench for Texas A&M.

G Pop Isaacs

G Marcus Hill

G Rylan Griffen

F Mackenzie Mgbako

C Federiko Federiko

Projected Bench: Jamie Vinson, Zach Clemence, Jacari Lane, Josh Holloway, Jeremiah Green, Ruben Dominguez, Ali Dibba, Rashaun Agee (pending NCAA waiver).

Former USC forward Rashaun Agee’s eligibility remains uncertain, while the rest of the roster is set.

Texas A&M will open the 2025-2026 season against Northwestern State on November 3.
