Saturday foursomes underway after Europe’s commanding start

Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Young teed off the Saturday foursomes session of the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black hoping to start a comeback for the United States following a dominant start for defending champions Europe.

After winning the morning foursomes session 3-1 on Friday, Europe consolidated their lead by winning two of the four fourballs matches, with the final contest halved to give them a 5.5-2.5 advantage going into Saturday.

DeChambeau and Young were up first as the USA aim to reverse the momentum, with that pairing going against Ludvig Aberg and Matt Fitzpatrick, a duo who hammered Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley in the foursomes on Friday.

The first hole was tied as both teams carded birdie on the par four.

Undeterred by a humbling on the first day, USA captain Keegan Bradley vowed to stick to the plan, including again pairing Collin Morikawa and Harris English together for the foursomes, despite analytics site Data Golf ranking that duo as 132nd in the list of compatible US pairings.

Morikawa and English were crushed 5&4 by Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood but will face the same duo again on Saturday.

“We’re really comfortable with our plan,” Bradley said. “We’re really comfortable with those two players. Excited [by] who they are playing tomorrow.

“It will be an exciting match and we’re sticking to our plan. We’re not going to panic. We’re not going to panic and make those sort of mistakes. We’re going to stick to what we know.”

Europe captain Luke Donald refused to get carried away despite his team’s strong start.

“The only one thing that people remember is who is the winner on Sunday,” said Donald.

“That is our goal and that continues to be our goal. I am very excited and proud of the team, how they dug in there. It’s a tough environment out there. The crowd was loud and like we expected.”
