Liverpool’s title defense is facing a stumbling block in this early stage of the season, following their second league defeat on Saturday. Meanwhile, Manchester United finally got itself back on winning ways, giving a massive boost to Ruben Amorim’s future at the club.
Liverpool Suffered a Defeat Against Chelsea
The Reds are facing a difficult moment as they suffered their second consecutive league defeat and third in all competitions this weekend. After losing to Crystal Palace last weekend and Galatasaray in the Champions League, Arne Slot’s side picked up another defeat as Chelsea beat them on Saturday.
Keen on bouncing back after the disappointing results against Palace and Galatasaray, Pool were pushing for all three points against The Blues. However, things immediately get tough for Slot’s men as they were 1-0 down after just 14 minutes.
Moises Caicedo put Chelsea in the lead with his stunning strike, which lasted until halftime. Liverpool did manage to get back on level terms midway through the second period, with a goal from Cody Gakpo, but it was the Blues that had the final say.
Brazilian talent Estevao secured all three points for the Blues with his close-range finish deep in added time. That goal sealed Chelsea’s win as there was not enough time for Liverpool to mount another comeback in that game.
Man United Pick Up Win Over Sunderland
Meanwhile, the Red Devils finally saw a bit of light this season as they got back into winning ways by beating the Black Cats. Facing massive pressure following a poor start to the season, Amorim’s men immediately put on an attacking approach.
United’s positive approach was rewarded after just eight minutes of play as they went 1-0 up thanks to Mason Mount’s goal. The home team eventually doubled their lead on 31 minutes, this time from Benjamin Sesko’s close-range effort.
Those two goals were enough to seal all three points for Man United, who grabbed their third win this season. It’s an important result that should put calm on Amorim’s head at least for the next couple of weeks as they go into the international break.
