Sacramento Kings forward Keegan Murray suffered a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb during his team’s preseason game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday. Murray will be re-evaluated in 4-to-6 weeks, meaning he’s likely to miss at least the first month of the regular season.
Murray has started in 231 of the 233 games he’s played in his first three NBA seasons. The 6-foot-8 forward has missed only 13 total games in those three seasons.
Murray was slated to start at power forward for Sacramento. The Kings do not have much depth at the four. Murray being a mainstay, plus that lack of depth, will leave Doug Christie scrambling a bit to put together lineups roughly a week-and-a-half ahead of the regular season opener.
Sacramento and Murray have until October 20 to reach an agreement on a rookie scale contract extension. If no agreement is reached, the Kings can make Murray a restricted free agent in the 2026 offseason.
