The new-look Dallas Mavericks will continue to have a familiar face patrolling the sideline.
Head coach Jason Kidd has agreed to a multi-year contract extension with the franchise, NBA insider Marc Stein reported on Tuesday.
Kidd, 52, will now have some level of job security as he shepherds the Mavericks into a new era featuring No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg and all-star Anthony Davis, who came to the team in January by way of a stunning deal that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.
A 10-time all-star and Hall of Famer as a player, Kidd took over as Dallas coach in June 2021. He’s since led the team to the 2024 Finals, where it lost to the Boston Celtics, and owns a 179-149 regular-season record in that span.
The Mavericks fell to the Golden State Warriors in the play-in tournament last season.
Meanwhile, they are likely to spend much of this coming season without star point guard Kyrie Irving, who tore his ACL in March.
Kidd was pursued by the New York Knicks for their coaching vacancy earlier this off-season, which was later filled by Mike Brown, per Stein.
