Only two weeks to go in the National Women’s Soccer League regular season and there is still much to play for. But with a four-point spread between eighth and ninth place, we could have the full playoff field established prior to the FIFA break.
Here’s how the clubs shape up after most of Week 24:
Cream of the Crop
z-Kansas City Current (20-2-2, 56 pts; vs Gotham, 2-0): Another week, another win. The Current handled Gotham with relative ease on Saturday to set the league record for points with two games to spare. (For context, they have played 24 games, and six of the prior 11 regular seasons have been 24 games or longer). If you’re an xG alarmist, some of those numbers have tailed off in recent weeks, but it is otherwise difficult to find new superlatives for this club.
