Adding fuel to the ongoing fire surrounding a potential Jon Jones superfight, Alex Pereira has detailed why now is the perfect time for both of them to meet inside the octagon.
A familiar occurrence unfolded for ‘Poatan’ last time out as he managed to recapture his UFC title at the first time of asking. His dominant 80-second win over Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 320 leaves nothing left to prove in his career, but the Brazilian has his sights set on a fight for the ages.
Not only have Alex Pereira and Jon Jones both publicly announced their respect toward the opposite party, but they have also shared a mutual interest in fighting one another.
Those fight talks became stale when Jones decided to hang up the gloves, and Pereira failed to retain his light heavyweight title earlier this year.
Despite his work and recent return to the throne at 205 lbs, the kickboxing phenom is interested in testing himself at heavyweight.
“I’ve always talked about moving up to heavyweight,” Pereira told Connect Cast. “But then I said to myself, ‘Man, stay in your weight class.'”
“I wanted to stay in my weight class, I cared about my health. But I’m 38 now, and at the same time, I’m thinking about my career.”

With the reports of Jon Jones’ return and Alex Pereira’s aforementioned title victory, the pair’s potential meeting in the cage has again ramped up.
“I think that’s the fight which needs to happen. Even Jon Jones was talking about this fight. That’s what he said in his interview the other day, right?”
“I think the same way he does. We’re both big names. No matter what happens, nobody loses in this fight.”
With Alex Pereira likely needing time to healthily gain the weight for a move up a division, the timeline for his return could perfectly align with a significant date.
The UFC plans to make the White House card the best show in company history. Alongside several big-name fights, fans have already begun speculating about a possible Jon Jones vs. Alex Pereira showdown in June 2026.
