The UFC Vegas 110 fight card on Saturday was headlined by a featherweight bout between rising stars, Steve Garcia and David Onama.
Garcia entered the fight riding a six-fight winning streak and ranked No. 12 in the division. Onama made the walk to the octagon on a four-fight wining streak and ranked No. 13 in the weight class. One would rise in the rankings while the other’s winning streak would come to an end.
Garcia took the center of the cage while Obama circled on the outside. Garcia landed to the body with a left. He followed up by doubling up on his jab. Garcia pressured Onama and connected with a left hand. Garcia dictated the pace and had Onama reacting to what he did. Onama landed with a counter right hand. Garcia stepped in the pocket with a left hand that sat Onama down. Onama got to his feet but Garcia kept the pressure on. He landed and Onama was on wobbly legs. Garcia hammered away until Onama went back to the canvas. A series of hammer fists forced the referee to stop the fight.
The official time of the stoppage was 3:34 of the first round. With the win, Garcia extended his winning streak to seven consecutive fights.
