Four-star running back shuts down recruitment, claims he’s ‘locked in’ originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

Georgia has received good recruiting news regarding four-star running back Jae Lamar. The Colquitt County high school product ranks as the 11th running back prospect and the 18th best prospect out of Georgia. As of the Friday morning, Lamar has confirmed he is shutting down his recruitment and will commit to the Georgia Bulldogs according to Chad Simmons of Rivals.

Georgia is currently ranked No. 5 in the AP Top 25 and is expected to make a significant playoff run. Their lone loss being a three-point loss to No. 4 ranked Alabama. A big reason for their success along with a stout defense is first year Georgia starting quarterback Gunner Stockton.

Stockton has put up respectable, if not fringe Heisman worthy numbers. 2,040 yards on 69.4% completion percentage, as well as 15 touchdowns to only two interceptions. A Heisman candidate quarterback is not uncharacteristic, but the rushing situation seems like it is.

The uncharacteristic aspect of the Georgia season has been their ‘running back by committee’ approach to the run game. Georgia has been running Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens almost equally.

Combined the duo has 187 carries for almost 1,100 yards. While that is nothing to look down your nose at, many Georgia backs of the last couple decades would flirt with that number by themselves.

Lamar looks like a Georgia featured back

Even as a high school prospect, Lamar looks like a Georgia style featured back. The six foot, 205-pound prospect received offer letters from over 30 programs before finally deciding on Georgia.

The Lamar decision comes at a good time as he constitutes the only running back committed to Georgia from the 2026 class. Prior to this announcement, Georgia already ranked as the No. 2 recruiting class for 2026.

Lamar is expected to project as a lead back for the Dawgs when he gets his opportunity. With a six-figure NIL valuation and a growing social media presence, Lamar should become a household name if his projection materializes.

No. 5 Georgia faces Charlotte and No. 16 Georgia Tech after this week’s contest vs No. 10 Texas. Georgia vs Texas will kick off at 7:30pm ET and broadcast on ABC.
