The Braves drafted speedy outfielder Logan Braunschweig out of UAB in the ninth round of this past MLB Draft. He was a senior sign pick who received just a $2,500 signing bonus. What Were Expectations?

Expectations were fairly minimal, but there were still some. Braunschweig received just a $2.5k bonus, but in his last three college seasons he hit at least .309 with an on base percentage of at least .428 in every season to go with a total of 64 stolen bases.2025 Results

Braunschweig went straight to Rome and played in 26 games there after signing his contract. He went on to slash .294/.406/.353 with 14 walks to 18 strikeouts in his 101 plate appearances. He added three doubles, a triple, and four stolen bases. What Went Right?

Braunschweig had no trouble adjusting to pro pitching thus far, continuing to hit for a high average with a high OBP. It’s a small sample size, but this is a player drafted for his hit tool, so this result was hardly unexpected – especially against High-A pitching, but still good to see right out of the gate.

Braunschweig isn’t known for his power. He had 10, 12, and 22 extra base hits over his final three college seasons – though he did have a slight power surge this year with a career-high seven homers. However just four extra base hits over 101 plate appearances leaves little margin for error with his hit tool, even to become just a fourth or fifth outfielder.

Braunschweig could potentially open 2026 back in Rome, but it is expected that his advanced hit tool and approach will get him to Double-A quickly. That will give him the bigger test that he needs after excelling with his hitting ability in college. He will need to tap into a little more power in order to reach a big league role, even if it’s more gap power than over the fence type of power.
