Dillon Danis has long been one of the most hated characters in the mixed martial arts space. His online persona hasn’t earned him many friends over the years, and that finally caught up to him during an appearance at UFC 322.
The BJJ whiz first rose to fame by helping Conor McGregor improve his ground game ahead of the Nate Diaz rematch in 2016. Since then, having fought just three times in MMA, with one coming under the Misfits banner, ‘El Jefe’ has established himself as a bad guy in combat sports.
As expected, his overconfident personality has painted a target on his back. All of those comments online built up to Dillon Danis being attacked while in the crowd at UFC 322 on Saturday night, though reports suggest he was to blame for the brawl.
Reacting for the first time since hearing the news, Islam Makhachev revealed the likely reason that his team and Danis truly got into an altercation.
“When you talk about someone [for the] last five years,” Makhachev said. “Last five years, you talk about someone, [and] when you meet them, you have to answer to what you said.”
“Today, I don’t think he answered. He still says a lot of bad things about our team, and today he came in, and somebody met him. He [spoke] about these guys badly, and today the guys just met him. That’s it.”

Islam Makhachev and his team have been in an ongoing verbal feud with Dillon Danis for almost a decade.
When hearing that Danis is now banned from ever attending another UFC event, Makhachev proposed a humorous additional punishment.
“He has to be banned from this country, also.”
Despite showing an interest in one day competing for the UFC, Dillon Danis’ dreams now seem impossible.
While the octagon may never be on the horizon for Danis, he is continuing his MMA journey. The 32-year-old is set to face Anthony Taylor in the cage on December 20.
