Matt Marchese: “What kind of number do you think that Jason Robertson is going to pull here?
Pagnotta: “Yeah, well, it’s going to be a big one. This is emphasis as to why Dallas was so steadfast into keeping him and not exploring the possibility of moving him last season, when all that (Mikko) Rantanen stuff was going down.
NHL Injuries: Ducks, Bruins, Sabres, Blackhawks, Red Wings, Oilers, Kings, Wild, Kraken, and Leafs
It was discussions with, with Carolina, was discussions with other teams that were saying, ‘Well, you’ve got all these pieces. What about a guy like Jason Robertson?’ How are you going to afford him if he keeps it going the way he’s going, and from a potential perspective?
And you know, he already cracked the 100-point mark earlier on in his career. The Stars feel and felt that he could do this again. He’s on pace now, three points night. He’s tied for in the NHL with . He’s showing and illustrating his, his output right now, and what he’s capable of.
You’re probably, and this one is going to depend on term. That’s going to dictate the overall number. The way he’s producing right now, you’re getting into the eight figures. So you’re getting into $10 million-plus range on a guy like Jason Robertson, even in Dallas with no-tax state.
So you’re talking about another big money contract in Dallas. Which, if you look at some of the numbers, Tyler Seguin has another year; that number is eventually going to drop overall. So, taking that into account with the rising salary cap, which next season is projected to be $104 (million), might even go higher than that. A lot of people believe it will. Season after that’s $113.5 (million) might be closer to $115 (million) when all is said and done. You’re going to have that extra cap space.
NHL Rumors: Vancouver Canucks, and NHL Trade Tiers
Now, I think Dallas is projecting this. They’re going to have to, it might be tight next season, but they’re going to have to try to get something done here. So you’re looking at something probably in the, yy guess the way he’s playing, $11 – $12 (million) range.
But that’ll also depend on the type of term he’s getting. This is going to be the last year, going up to September of ’26 where you can lock into an eight-year extension for him. You know, you have until basically the start of next season to do it. There’s no panic on either side, but you know, they’re going to have to get to get to it, and it’ll be a big, number 11, 12, maybe more.”
