Braves trade rumors: Atlanta claims Osvaldo Bido and Anthony Molina off waivers

The Atlanta Braves have made regular usage of the outright waivers system as of late and this time, they’ve done a double dip in that particular pool in order to pick up a couple of pitchers. In one fell swoop, the Braves announced that they’d claimed both RHP Osvaldo Bido and RHP Anthony Molina off waivers from the Pirates and Rockies, respectively.

As a matter of fact, the Braves claimed Josh Walker off of waivers from the Orioles just last month, so they’ve essentially replaced one waiver claim with another waiver claim in relatively short order. Go figure.

Anyways, both of these hurlers are coming off of underwhelming seasons, as Bido finished 2025 with an ERA of 5.87 (139 ERA-) and a FIP of 6.07 (144 FIP-) over 79.2 while Molina also had a rough go of it with a 7.27 ERA (152 ERA-) and a FIP of 6.94 (158 FIP-). Molina is still pretty young and will be going into his Age-24 season in 2026, so I’d imagine that they’ll probably keep him at Triple-A for the majority of the season (assuming they keep him for that long) while occasionally bringing him up in case the bullpen needs some help at the outer edges.

Meanwhile, the acquisition of Osvaldo Bido is a tiny bit intriguing. Bido isn’t too far removed from a successful 2024 season for the A’s where he tossed 63.1 innings and put up an ERA of 3.41 (88 ERA-) and a FIP of 3.36 (85 FIP-) with some very good-looking peripheral stats as well. The Braves will surely be hoping that Bido can return to something even close to approaching that form, as that would provide a pretty solid boost to the bullpen (and maybe even the rotation as a spot starter as well, as he has made 28 career starts so far). He’s also got a nice mix of four pitches to rely on so hopefully the Braves organization can find a way to get him back to where he was back in the 2024 season.

In addition to these two acquisitions, it’s being reported by Aram Leighton of Just Baseball that the Braves have signed OF Ben Gamel on a minor league deal. Yes, Ben Gamel is still playing. He was last seen at the big league level putting up 0.1 fWAR in 20 games for the Houston Astros back in 2024 and he spent the entirety of the 2025 season split between the Angels farm system and the Tigers farm system. He’s now in Atlanta’s farm system and I’d imagine that he’ll get an invitation to spring training with a chance to make it onto the Opening Day roster as a bench option.

All in all, these are all some minor moves but in the case of Osvaldo Bido, that seems like something that could end up going very well for the Braves if the best-case scenario plays out. We’ll see what happens going forward with the Winter Meetings on the near horizon.
