Brett Yormark Rips Notre Dame Athletic Director Over CFP Drama

Well, we can probably put to rest any more rumors of the Big 12 and Notre Dame hooking up after Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark smoked Notre Dame athletic director Pete Bevacqua in a conversation on Tuesday night at the International Association of Football.

Yormark said, “I don’t like how Notre Dame has reacted to it. I think Pete’s behavior has been egregious. It’s been egregious going after [ACC Commissioner] Jim Phillips, when they saved Notre Dame during COVID. We all knew, Hunter was very transparent about it, that as Notre Dame and Miami got closer together, head to head would be a factor. BYU lost, they became closer together, head to head made a difference in that decision. I think he was totally out of bounds in his approach, and if he was in the room I’d say the same thing.”

Here’s the video from the Sports Business Journal on X.

Yormark absolutely torching Notre Dame, who also reportedly dodged BYU in the Pop Tarts Bowl, is exactly the kind of calling out we need from leaders in college football right now.

Notre Dame missed out on the College Football Playoff and then elected to skip playing in a bowl game, and since their athletic director has been on a crusade against the College Football Playoff committee, ESPN, and anyone else who has critiqued the Irish over the last few weeks.

And let’s not forget, considering BYU got hosed worse than Notre Dame, as the Cougars were behind the Irish in the final standings, despite the better Strength of Record and Strength of Schedule, and better Top 25 record, the Irish don’t have much of a leg to stand on.

One thing that should unite many college football fans in this moment is the clear SEC bias favoring Alabama, and the entire conference, in this process. But that’s a battle for another day.
