TCU Basketball tipped off against Incarnate Word on Monday night in what should have been a fairly uneventful game in Fort Worth. The Horned Frogs were 20-point favorites going into the game, but TCU had to mount a second-half comeback to hold off the Cardinals and pull out the 69-65 win.
The Horned Frogs were down 37-31 at halftime, and even trailed 50-42 after a few minutes in the second half. At the 9:30 mark, TCU was down 56-50, and then the comeback began. TCU went on a 13-4 run to take a 63-60 lead at the four-minute mark. David Punch scored nine points during that run for the Horned Frogs. Punch finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds on the night to lead the Horned Frogs.
After a Davion Bailey three-pointer tied the game at 65, the Horned Frogs had the ball, and it was Brock Harding missing a jumper, following his own miss, and putting back what turned out to be the game-winning basket.
Incarnate Word had a chance down 67-65, but a Tahj Staveskie turnover essentially sealed the win for TCU, with Brock Harding getting fouled and making both free throws.
The Horned Frogs have had an up-and-down season thus far. They lost their season opener to New Orleans, but also have a Top 10 win over Florida, who they beat 84-80. TCU is 7-3 on the season and next up hosts Oral Roberts on Thursday December 18th with a 7:00 p.m. tip off on ESPN+.
The Horned Frogs have three more non-conference games before they open up Big 12 play on Saturday, January 3rd against the Baylor Bears.
