Jake Humphrey causes a stir with fans after questioning their protests and chants

Norwich striker Jovon Makama told BBC Radio Norfolk:

“A goal is a goal. It went in and I ran away and celebrated. I can’t quite remember how it went in.

“It (VAR) can stay away for now!

“It has been an incredibly tough start to the season and it’s such a nice feeling to come away smiling.

“That’s two home wins in a row now and I think we needed it so much just as a team and for the fans as well and the club as a whole.

“They’ve been in really good form but it just goes to show how good a team we are when we are aggressive, when we go after it and really put our bodies on the line. That’s what we did from minute one today.

“You can see just how it means to the boys to give something to cheer about and ourselves something to be happy about.

“As a team we are really getting together and working hard for each other.

“Every performance we are fighting more and more.”

As mentioned, Jake Humphrey causes a stir with fans after questioning their protests and chants…

@ChrisReevo: Would positively challenge you on the relegation shouts mate – I think #NCFC fans were more than entitled to say that. Until PC arrived – in stadium eye test, performance stats, form facts & results, were all pointing towards L1. Anyway, let’s move forward together now. 💛💪🏼

@Big_Slove: They clearly weren’t going “everything they could” because they’re all, to a man, giving more energy on the pitch now.

@Anna_say25: Those players were not doing everything they could, that is a blatant lie! I dont know if its because they didn’t buy into the manager or what but under Manning they looked like they could not be bothered, and they were sleepwalking into relegation. The difference in attitude we see now is night and day. Now they are fighting! Now they are doing everything they can!

@Alex_Murray_: Hi Jake. We were sleepwalking to relegation as we couldn’t win a home game. Thanks 👍

@IanGabelli: I dont think any of that is even remotely correct, Jake. They are Knappers signings, not Mannings. At the time of said criticism, we were heading for relegation, lost every home game. The players lacked any fight for the badge during that period, so deserved to be told so

@IanEdNorman: At that point they literally weren’t fit enough to wear the shirt. We could only judge those players on what we’d seen. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Until Phillipe Clement arrived they were nothing short of embarrassing and hurtling towards relegation.

@markdolman7: We WERE sleep walking to relegation, players have proved they were not playing to their best under Manning, and maybe the chants forced change? Which has proven to be the right call?

@JamesBigg: I mean, they literally were not fit to wear the shirt, as Clement has called out. I’d say Norwich fans are more patient than most. But not sure what other reaction was to be expected after losing the first eight home games.

@CastCanary: What a strange time for a fan to be divisive. Under Liam Manning Norwich were going down. We won’t forget how poor those in power have been in their communication to the fans but Philippe Clement has improved players and made Norwich competitive which is all we ask for #ncfc

@NeilGilding: Chant was exactly right at the time. The performances were dire. They clearly weren’t doing all they could, given the exact same players have managed 8 points from the last 5 games under a proper manager.

@Henners86: Great post Jake 🤦🏻‍♂️. Next time we lose 7 home games in a row, find ourselves 4 points from safety with a whopping 9 points from 15 games, the fans should just keep quiet. If the fans hadn’t spoke up and got change, the club most definitely was “sleepwalking to relegation”!

@Martin_M_Miller: Hi Jake, please can you elaborate more on the point you’re trying to make here? It seems a bit all over the place. Feels kinda like you’re going for the #ncfc fans here and if so, wow.

@BigPoggy1: Or, fan pressure and understandable dissatisfaction with the level of performance forced a managerial change. The change has led to big improvement in performances and player output. So, in other words, well placed and helpful 👍

@NCFC_Adam: Their performances at the time warranted such reaction. We were very much stuck on a downward spiral with Manning in charge

@BWP1924: If these chants didn’t happen I’m sure manning will still be in a job.

@JMO_96: How can you even debate this? We were obviously heading to League 1 and despite the huge up turn in form, we’re still 23rd! Why are we acting like we’re out of it?!

@darrylb1995: There’s no Norwich “fan” more out of touch than this bloke. Clearly trying to defend his mate Knapper here & has gone ridiculously early considering we are in fact still in the relegation zone. BK should’ve sacked LM earlier but was desperately trying to save his own skin! #ncfc

@leeroypatel: The pressure that fans applied eventually pushed the club in the right direction. No one should apologise for calling out those dreadful performances and results. #ncfc

@J4GU4R_: In a brief moment of #ncfc unity and happiness, here comes Jake Humphrey’s taking a pop at the fan base 🤣

@Ian_M1: Jake patronising the fans again? Who knew? At that time, you’re right, we weren’t “sleepwalking to relegation”, we were hurtling towards it at the speed of light. And they clearly weren’t “fit to wear the shirt”. They’ve since had a kick up the collective arse by Big Phil #ncfc

I mean, you’re spot on, aside from the fact we definitely appeared to be ‘sleepwalking to relegation’, they were (as they were performing) unfit to wear the shirt, and there was nothing to suggest they knew what they were doing.

Other than that, nailed it. https://t.co/Xiy9EEH2Op
