Hockey New Zealand can confirm a revised format for the Vantage Black Sticks Women’s Summer of Hockey in Dunedin, following the unfortunate withdrawal of India and Korea from the series. Due to the recently announced World Cup qualifier, they face logistical challenges and difficult scheduling commitments. While this is disappointing news, we have worked quickly with all partners to ensure the event continues and delivers exciting hockey for players and fans alike.
Japan and the United States remain confirmed, alongside strong local opposition with NZA included to ensure a full four-team competition. The revised event will continue to run across the original dates of 21–25 January 2026 and will now operate as a three-nation, four-team series at the Alexander McMillan Hockey Centre. Each team will play one another once before progressing to a finals day, allowing for two matches per day and a full programme of action. As an FIH-sanctioned event, all matches played between New Zealand, Japan, and the United States will count as official international test matches, while fixtures involving NZA will provide valuable high-level competition and depth to the tournament.
Hockey New Zealand remains excited and proud to bring international hockey back to Dunedin. This event plays an important role in the Vantage Black Sticks Women’s preparation in a World Cup year, while also giving the local hockey community the chance to watch world-class athletes compete on home soil. Hosting international test matches in Aotearoa is hugely important for our players, our fans, and the growth of the game, and we’re committed to delivering a memorable summer hockey experience.
