The Tampa Bay Rays have hired Corey Dickerson as their first base coach, replacing Michael Johns, who joined the Washington Nationals as bench coach.

“I am thrilled to congratulate and welcome Corey to serve as our first base coach,” said Rays Manager Kevin Cash. “I look forward to him bringing his experience and expertise to the major league club.”

Dickerson, 36, served as head coach at Jackson (Miss.) Academy in 2025. The McComb, Miss. native hit .280/.323/.476 (1,028-for-3,671) with 237 doubles, 37 triples, 136 home runs, 469 RBI, 227 walks, 483 runs scored and 30 stolen bases over 1,083 games spanning 11 major league seasons from 2013-23. A 2018 Rawlings Gold Glove winner, Dickerson suited up for eight franchises during his career, including two seasons with the Rays (2016-17), highlighted by his lone career All-Star selection during his second season with the club in 2017. The left-handed hitter batted .265/.310/.480 (291-for-1,098) with 69 doubles, seven triples, 51 home runs and 132 RBI in 298 games with Tampa Bay, his most with any club.

Dickerson will become the eighth major league coach in franchise history who has previously played for the Rays, joining Kevin Cash (2015—pres.), Paul Hoover (2019-22), Matt Quatraro (2018-22), Ozzie Timmons (2018-21), Rocco Baldelli (2015-18), Dave Martinez (2007-14) and Wade Boggs (2001). Timmons re-joined the Rays staff when he was hired as assistant hitting coach Nov. 3.
