This question is potentially premature for some of you (I spent the first couple of decades of my life celebrating New Year’s with basically the same trappings as U.S.-based commercialized Christmas), but we’re going with it anyway.
I’m not much of a fan of receiving gifts, but in a much-appreciated attempt to declutter, my holiday tradition has morphed into a single secret Santa amid all the siblings/siblings-in-law, and I actually got something worth mentioning: an ugly holiday sweater, but Braves-themed and with a ridiculously garish jersey number/nameplate on the back. Exactly the kind of horrendous thing that I’ll always chuckle about when I remember/see it.
Did you get anything inspired this year? I’m more of a fan of giving gifts than receiving, mostly because I feel like the reverse is true for the vast majority and most gifts are more checking a box of “yep I got a gift for so-and-so” rather than anything meaningful or insightful, but at least I have a ridiculously bonkers sweater now.
