Man Utd can forget Glasner by hiring the “best young coach in Europe”

Given his outburst after the recent 1-1 draw with Leeds United, it was almost expected that Ruben Amorim would do well to maintain his position as Manchester United manager.

However, his dismissal first thing on Monday morning may have come as somewhat of a surprise, with the hierarchy evidently wanting an immediate change in the role.

It was reported that a breakdown in a relationship occurred before the draw at the weekend, with Jason Wilcox the person who was at the forefront of the issues.

However, he and the rest of the hierarchy now have the huge task of finding a long-term solution, with Darren Fletcher currently fulfilling the role on a temporary basis.

Numerous names have already been mentioned with a potential move to Old Trafford, which could finally put the club back in the right track in the Premier League.

Man Utd want to appoint top-level boss to replace Amorim

In the hours after Amorim’s surprising departure from United, the Red Devils have seen countless names enter the mix, including Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner.

The Austrian has constantly voiced his displeasure over the lack of funding at Selhurst Park in recent months, whilst even rejecting any advances on his current deal.

His contract in London is set to expire at the end of the campaign, which could make him a cheap yet effective option for the Red Devils hierarchy in the weeks ahead.

Glasner isn’t the only name on their shortlist at present, with German national team boss Julian Nagelsmann another option currently being considered.

According to the Independent, INEOS are huge admirers of the 38-year-old, but a deal could be hugely unlikely in the coming months given his ties to his current role.

However, it does state that a deal in the summer could be on the cards, especially after he’s finished leading Germany into the upcoming World Cup this summer.

Christopher Vivell knows his work well from Red Bull Leipzig so there is already a natural link there.

Why Nagelsmann would be a better option than Glasner

Over the last couple of years, Glasner has made himself a household name in England’s top-flight, given the success he’s endured during his time in charge of Crystal Palace.

He led the Eagles to their first-ever major trophy at the end of the last campaign, subsequently defeating Manchester City 1-0 at Wembley in the FA Cup final.

The Austrian has since backed up his success with the Community Shield back in August, whilst also leading the club in their first-ever European adventure in 2025/26.

His current contract situation has certainly made him an even more viable option for INEOS, but they desperately need to pass up the opportunity and hunt for Nagelsmann.

Despite being just 38, the German has already racked up an impressive CV, managing his country whilst also being Bayern Munich boss over an 18-month period.

He claimed the Bundesliga title back in the 2021/22 campaign, whilst also achieving a 71% win percentage and a 2.3 points per game record in Germany’s top-flight.

Nagelsmann has also claimed two Super Cup titles during his managerial career, firmly backing up claims that he is the “best young coach in Europe” as journalist Josh Bunting put it.

It’s unclear how open he would be to taking the reins at Old Trafford, but it’s safe to say he’s already secured more trophies and more success than Glasner despite being 13 years younger.

Nagelsmann, who’s been dubbed “phenomenal” by one analyst, has the experience of winning trophies, something which United have greatly lacked in recent seasons.

Very few managers are able to achieve a win rate like the German, with Glasner only able to achieve a 45% win percentage in his near two-year spell at Selhurst Park.

The German also boasts the ability to develop and mould his career around any move to Manchester, potentially able to succeed in the role for many years to come.

His top-level experience should be crucial to their pursuit to land him in the months ahead, with the youngster needing to be the club’s number one target to replace Amorim.
