MMM Reacts Survey: Who is going to win the Atlantic 10 on the women’s side this year?

The Atlantic 10 is shaping up to be quite a competitive race on the women’s side this season. Though we are only four games into conference play, three teams are still undefeated, and two more are 3-1. The conference has five teams ranked in the top 10 of this week’s Women’s Other Top 25.

Rhode Island is the top ranked team at No. 4. Preseason favorite Richmond is one spot behind. Davidson followed at six, while Saint Joseph’s was eight, and George Mason came in at 10.

So that led us to ask the question: which team will win the title this year?

The Rams are 4-0 in conference play and 13-2 overall this season. They have won seven games in a row, highlighted by their 73-61 win over Richmond last Tuesday. They also defeated SJU in their conference opener.

Tammi Reiss’ team is top-50 in the NET at 49 and 56th in BartTorvik. The Rams have the stingiest defense in the league, holding opponents to 55.1 points per game.

The Spiders were picked as the preseason favorites after receiving an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament last season. They are 3-1 in A10 play. They bounced back from the loss to Rhode Island with a pair of blowout wins over St. Bonaventure and Fordham.

Aaron Roussell’s group is the highest rated in the conference at 47th in both the NET and Torvik. It has the most potent offense in the league at 72.6 points a night. Maggie Doogan is an absolute stud and leads the A10 in both scoring (22.8 ppg) and assists (5.1). She’s second in rebounding (8.5 rpg) and sixth in steals (1.4).

The Patriots are the reigning tournament champions and are off to a 4-0 start in league play. They are the only team to notch a win over La Salle during the conference slate so far as they picked up a 62-47 win Wednesday night.

Led by head coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis, GMU is 67th in the NET and 70th in Torvik. Zahirah Walton ranks second in the A10 in scoring (19.6 ppg).

The Wildcats are following up a 13-5 mark in the A10 last year with a 4-0 start. Last season was just their second time finishing multiple games above .500 in the league since joining in advance of the 2014-15 season. They have double-digit wins over Saint Joseph’s and Saint Louis in their last two games.

Gayle Fulks has this team as the second highest-ranked A-10 team in Torvik at 50 and third in the NET at 52.

Beyond those four teams there are several others that can make a run at the title. La Salle is off to a 3-1 start. Saint Joseph’s is just 2-2 so far, but SJU has strong computer numbers at 64 in the NET and 77 in Torvik.
