Fox Sports radio host has a mind-blowing take on Stephen Curryās status as the greatest shooter of all time.
Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry has an excellent resume featuring a plethora of accolades, including four NBA Championships.
Curry is undoubtedly a future Hall of Famer and he will most fondly be remembered as the greatest shooter of all time in eyes of most fans.
Stephās status as the GOAT shooter is pretty much set, but according to Fox Sports radio host Rob Parker, thatās not the case. In fact, he would rather choose Michael Jordan over Curry as the GOAT shooter.
Rob Parker: āStephen Curry is not the greatest shooterā
Despite making more than 4,000 three-point shots and changing the way basketball is played in the modern-era, Parker denied Curryās case for the greatest shooter of all time.
āHeās just not the greatest shooter of all time. Thatās where weāre going to put this. Because Iām still going to say I would take a lot of other players in a big moment.
āThis is what Iām saying, we can open this up sooner than later because I really want to hear from people and hear what Iām saying.
āWhen you call someone the greatest shooter, it means under any circumstance, you would want them to have the ball when you need a basket. I donāt care what they all say.
āHe has had 14 looks with a chance to tie and win the game in the postseason. And he hasnāt made one of them.ā
Parker then claimed that the biggest shots that Curry has made were during the 2024 Paris Olympics. But were they clutch shots? Not by the Fox Sports radio hostās definition.
āThe biggest threes he made came in the Olympics. And they donāt even count in the NBA. Only one of those shots was considered a clutch shot.ā
Parker would choose Michael Jordan, Ray Allen, or Reggie Miller
There is no doubt that before the rise of Curry, the likes of Ray Allen and Reggie Miller were viewed as two of the greatest shooters of all time.
But Parker went one step further and included Michael Jordan on his list of GOAT shooters.
āI think he is disqualified from being considered the greatest shooter. Is he the greatest three-point maker? Without question. I would be lying to you if I sat here and said he wasnāt, he is.
āBut there is a difference between the two. I really believe that. I would give Ray Allen, Reggie Miller, Michael Jordan, any of those people, the ball with the game on the line before I gave it to Steph Curry.ā
Basically, Parkerās argument relies on Curryās somewhat lackluster performance in the NBAās definition of clutch shots, which is any made basket when the game is in the final five minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime. The score should also be within five points.
Sure, Curry shoots 40.1% under those parameters in the playoffs. But Jordanās 41.9%, Allenās 42.8%, and Millerās 39.8% arenāt that far off.
As for including Jordan in the GOAT shooter debate, itās simply a terrible take. Or are we forgetting that MJ was just 32.7% from the three-point line for his career?
On top of that, he also holds the record for the worst-ever performance in a three-point contest after shooting just 16.67%.
