Colorado head coach Deion Sanders is not a fan of the t-step.
Sanders was with NFL Network’s Bucky Brooks in a video and demonstrated how “stupid” he thinks it is. He later said that if one of his players does that, he’s going to rip his facemask off.
“Let me teach you real quick how stupid the T-step is real quick,” Sanders said. “I’m going to reach you real quick, Bucky.”

Former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel saw the video and completely disagreed with Sanders. He called him “foolish” and thought the t-step was totally fine.
“I can’t stop laughing how foolish he sounds. You can’t control everything sir. The first thing a cornerback is taught, never run out of breaks…Sooooo T-Step is the perfect technique,” Samuel tweeted.
Sanders saw his response and tweeted back at him, saying he was “taking a shot at the sky.”
“Sir. Foolish. Lololol God bless u my brother. Tell them what this really about sir. U forever taking a shot at the sky. Mickey Andrews is Responsible for teaching us what I teach and it sure seemed like it worked for us. Peace be Still,” Sanders tweeted.

Sanders has his way of teaching his defensive backs while Samuel disagrees. Samuel was a great cornerback but Sanders is widely regarded as the best cornerback in NFL history so if he says something, you better listen.
He’s been the head coach at Colorado for the last two seasons and has done a great job turning it around. Colorado was coming off a one-win season in 2022 when Sanders took over and in just two years, he’s won a combined 13 games, including nine this past season.
He’ll try to bring the program a double-digit win season when the 2025 season kicks off in September.
