The plan for the UFC White House card remains a highly anticipated return for Conor McGregor, but his opponent may not be who many expect it to be.
Many false alarms have accompanied the UFC comeback talk for McGregor, with a fight falling out just weeks before its scheduled date being the closest he has been to the octagon. The delay in his career hasn’t deterred fans, who are as invested as ever in the noise surrounding the Irishman resuming his progress inside the cage.
Conor McGregor competing at the UFC White House is the sport’s worst-kept secret, but it’s his opponent who may surprise most fans.
McGregor has long been linked to Michael Chandler. The pair competed as coaches on The Ultimate Fighter together, and were set to fight before injury forced ‘The Notorious’ out.
Now, adding to the growing reports, Jorge Masvidal has not only teased an appearance on the UFC White House card, but also hinted at McGregor being the opponent.
“I can’t really say too much, but I am training for something big, man,” Masvidal said in response to the McGregor links. “I can say that. [It’s] something very big. Something very big.”
“You never know, right? Sh*t, give them what they want, not what they expect. I can say some big news. You know, I have some fight news coming soon, and it’s very big news.”

The rumors began after Dana White revealed the UFC’s reluctance to revisit the Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler plans.
Now it seems Jorge Masvidal will be one-half of the event’s big attraction.
“I can’t deny or confirm what you just said, you know,” Masvidal continued. “You just got to let the chips fall where they may. But, definitely some big news headed towards the MMA community.”
“I’m [Donald] Trump’s favorite fighter, brother. That’s all you got to just keep in mind. Trump’s favorite fighter, just remember that at all times.”
