Would Elias Pettersson even consider waiving his no-movement clause?
NHL Trade Alert: Elliotte Friedman said on Oilers Now with Bob Stauffer on Wednesday that he doesn’t have any indication that Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson would be willing to waive his no-movement clause. He says the same for Canucks defenseman Filip Hronek. All the trade rumors are moot. Friedman adds that teams would have to make big offers to the Canucks, to make them go to Pettersson to ask if he’d consider it.
What could the return for Elias Pettersson possibly look like?
Sportsnet 650: Are the Vancouver Canucks starting to wonder if Elias Pettersson has a little more trade value than they may have initially thought?
NHL Rumors: $200 Million for a 10% Stake in the Vegas Golden Knights
Host: “But is it realistic to expect that, even in a trade, that he would bring back more than what the Canucks got in a J.T. Miller trade, and that’s maybe a first-round pick that’s going to be a bit later, most likely. You’re getting an okay prospect, and you got to take a contract back. Like that, to me, seems like the template for the best-case scenario for Petey right now.
Frank Seravalli: “I think they would do way better than that.
Host: “You think they can?
Seravalli: “I think they, yeah, I do. I think the market has changed pretty drastically on Pettersson. Because teams realize how hard it is to acquire a player like that.
And they see the upside, and they see what other centers are being paid, and they’re saying, ‘Well, $11.6 (million) is certainly a risk, but if we can get him back close to, you know, not even all the way, get him back close to somewhere between what he is now and what he used to be, 11.6 isn’t going to be crazy.’ Not with the cap increasing. Not with how thin the center market is.
NHL Rumors: Would the Return for Artemi Panarin be Underwhelming?
And so I think they’re re-evaluating that’s going, we don’t have our, an ability to get our hands on players like this very often. We should try and make something happen. And that’s, that’s exactly what’s changed. And that’s what’s making the Canucks think, is this value has exceeded, I think, where they believed it was.”
