Report: Conley plans to re-sign with Timberwolves after release from Hornets

The veteran guard reportedly plans to rejoin the ball club he started the 2025-26 season with after being released by the Charlotte Hornets, per ESPN’s Shams Charania on Friday.

Conley, 38, was traded to the Chicago Bulls ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline and the guard was then rerouted to the Hornets not long after.

The one-time all-star has appeared in 44 games (nine starts) with Minnesota this season, averaging 4.4 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 18.5 minutes.

Moving Conley saved the Timberwolves — who entered the deadline above the first apron — from having to pay a portion of the $10.7 million the vet guard was due to make this season. The move helped them gain the financial flexibility to acquire guard Ayo Dosunmu from the Bulls in a separate deal.

Minnesota got to add a guard, who’s 12 years younger and in the midst of a career-best season, and will now reintegrate Conley’s veteran presence into the mix at a much more affordable price tag.

According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, the 18-year-vet was only able to reunite with Minnesota because it was Charlotte that waived him and not Chicago.

Conley has spent the last four seasons with the Timberwolves, before a four-year stint with the Utah Jazz and 12 years with the Memphis Grizzlies, who drafted him fourth overall in 2007.
