Everton talent is already looking like another Dewsbury-Hall in the making

Everton’s emphatic away form in the Premier League saw them come up trumps against Fulham on Saturday, winning despite being a goal down with 15 minutes left on the clock.

It’s only been around 13 months since David Moyes took charge, replacing the beleaguered Sean Dyche, but in that time, Everton have severed their ties to the relegation fodder and are now jogging behind those at the top of the standings, outsiders in the race for European football.

The Toffees are seventh in the table, which could secure Conference League football next year. There’s a long way still to go, but this is promising stuff, especially when considering that Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is fit and firing once again.

The significance of Dewsbury-Hall’s return

Everton signed Dewsbury-Hall for £30m last summer after the English playmaker’s disappointing transfer from Leicester City to Chelsea, and he is thriving, soaking up the joy of moving to Moyes’ system and becoming one of the Toffees’ most important players.

He has been missed in recent weeks, sidelined for weeks with a hamstring injury, but on his second starting appearance back, the 27-year-old has reminded everyone of his quality, scoring the equaliser as the game drew toward the later phase. That’s his fifth strike of the campaign, with more sure to come.

It was also the former Chelsea man who delivered the ball that resulted in Bernd Leno’s own goal, a match winner for the away side.

Dewsbury-Hall proved his creative worth throughout the fixture. with Blues writer Ell Bretland remarking that “he pops up similarly to Fellaini and Cahill away from home”, so “fearless” in his pursuit of goals and assists.

However, Dewsbury-Hall wasn’t the only Toffee to catch the eye in attack, with a younger man – a former teammate, in fact – making his name known from the bench.

Moyes has already found the next Dewsbury-Hall

Dewsbury-Hall made the right career decision when leaving Stamford Bridge and signing for Everton, and it appears Tyrique George has too, with the electric-paced winger enjoying a “sharp” – as was commented by Everton correspondent Harry Watkinson – off-the-bench debut for the Merseysiders.

Despite his limited match action, the 20-year-old was awarded a 7/10 rating by the Liverpool Echo, who noted his eventful display, completing nine of 11 passes, recovering two loose balls and seeing a well-struck shot veer over the bar.

Dewsbury-Hall and George celebrate

Having joined Everton from Chelsea on transfer deadline day, a loan deal with the option to make it permanent at the end of the season, George has started off with a winning performance, with his flair and dribbling ability sure to quickly win over the fanbase, especially with Jack Grealish currently out injured.

At Everton, he will have a platform to showcase his skills. Having actually featured 37 times for Chelsea’s senior side, scoring six goals and supplying six assists, George already has enough experience to dovetail right in, adding a new dimension down the left channel.

Dewsbury-Hall proved his worth once again versus Fulham, but George arguably has even more talent, and perhaps he will end up outshining his former west London teammate.

Described as having a “fearless” streak right from his youth days, according to former coach David Sobers, George already looks like a shrewd investment, and will be in line to start from the opening whistle when Moyes’ side welcome Bournemouth to Merseyside on Tuesday evening.

George could have stuck with it at Chelsea, earned opportunities here and there, maybe catch the eye out on loan, but Everton will provide him with a stable foundation from which he can build his skill and status.

The snappy winger is only at the beginning, but he’s shown that he has followed Dewsbury-Hall’s pathway and now has a clear shot at becoming a star at the Hill Dickinson.
