The Canadian women’s national team will be back on the pitch next month at the 2026 She BelievesCup when they take on Colombia, U.S. women’s national team and Argentina. Casey Stoney has released Canada’s 24-player roster ahead of the red and white’s first camp of the year and there are notable omissions.
Adriana Leon and Ashley Lawrence will not be competing for Canada during the upcoming international window. Both players have been mainstays on the national team with a combined 283 appearances. The duo are healthy and were available to be selected.
Stoney has elected to incorporate younger players and wants to give others an opportunity with the squad. Leon and Lawrence remain a part of the future but, for this particular friendly tournament, Stoney wants to take a look at different options.
“I fully respect everything they’ve done and will continue to do,” Stoney told reporters. “It’s not an easy decision to make. It’s not an easy phone call to make, both very disappointed to miss out, but understood the reasons and rationale. It’s about reacting, going away, getting to work and then making themselves available for the next window. It gives us an opportunity to look at other players. We want to make sure this squad is competitive.”
