There is some Elias Pettersson and Los Angeles Kings speculation, but does it make sense for either side?
Daily Faceoff: Irf Gaffar and David Pagnotta talk about the Vancouver Canucks, Los Angeles Kings, and Elias Pettersson trade speculation. It may not make sense from either side.
Gaffar: “Let’s, let’s call it chatter, because I don’t want to call it a report about the Kings keeping tabs on Elias Pettersson, and if that were to make any sense.
In my mind, I don’t think it does for the Los Angeles Kings’ point of view. Maybe Elias Pettersson does want to change the scene arena, and I know that, you know he’s got ties to the Los Angeles area. Believe his wife’s from there. But I just don’t see a situation where that happens at all. Do you?”

Pagnotta: “I’m, I don’t know what the return would be. That’s where for me…”
Gaffar: “It’d start with (Quinton) Byfield, but then, but then you still need a second line center if you’re LA. So like, what are you doing?”
Pagnotta: “Right. Right, exactly. And I don’t see a scenario where the Kings would want to do that or go down that road. I would imagine (Alex) Laferriere, who’s only 24 might be part of those discussions if it gets there. But then what else?
You know, I don’t anticipate Vancouver wanting to eat anything significant, if anything on Petey’s contract. I think LA would be open to taking the full cap hit, but you’re not going to be giving equal value or market value for Elias Pettersson if you’re doing that right now.
I think the Kings would be open to it if it’s a low return. but they’ve also dealt one of their top young prospects in (Liam) Greentree over to New York in order to get (Artemi) Panarin. I don’t think they’d be open to giving up their first-round pick, but we’ll see. I mean, if it’s a player of you know, like Elias Pettersson, who’s signed long-term, maybe they shift their mentality there.

But regardless, from a Canucks perspective, you’re not going to get market value back if you’re dealing with LA. And then if he pops off, then you got to deal with this guy in your division for the next six years, or whatever it is that he has left.”
